Bookkeeping
If you’re math minded, detail oriented, and have compulsive integrity, perhaps independent bookkeeping and accounting is right for you.
With the growing complexities in business finances, many already busy business owners are turning to independent bookkeepers for the financial upkeep that their businesses demand. Although many accounting firms stay busy with the needs of their clients, they aren’t always fitted to handle their clients bookkeeping work and will often outsource to independent bookkeepers as well.
To be a bookkeeper, you need to be thorough, honest, and have an eye for detail. Consider that if a client asks you to turn a blind eye on unrecorded incomes, perhaps they wouldn’t have any qualms over not paying your fee. It’s best to steer clear of that type of client.
If you have any work experience in any financial or accounting positions, it’s likely you’re already qualified for your own bookkeeping business. A general knowledge of bookkeeping software is necessary; however, most programs are easy to learn.
As an independent bookkeeper, you can charge anywhere between 25-40 dollars per hour depending on where you live. Bookkeepers usually do anything from minimal record keeping to advanced and detailed tax preparation services, as the more services you provide the more you can charge.
