My Story

About 2 years ago, my daughter was around 20 months old. Her mother was working part-time in a local department store in the evenings.

I was a local residential cable installation technician (Scary the Cable Guy, LOL!). However, after a while the money was dropping and I was burned out from long hours, average pay, and (the worst part) crawling in attics. (Florida attics are HOT!!).

I told Sarah (my wife) about my impending decision to quit that job but that there wasn't much else I was qualified for, or that would even interest me in doing. I suggested that she work for a while and let me stay home with the baby while I tried to find something to support us. She wasn't entirely happy with me, but she understood.

I had always had entrepreneurial interests and dreamed on working for myself some day. Unfortunately, that kind of undertaking required money and time, both of which I had very little.

One day Sarah comes to me after a particularly rough day from work and tells me that her friend can get her a job working for a local company as a secretary.

We talked about the hours, and pay and discussed her options and maybe even childcare for Dylan (my daughter). The conclusion was that we would be broke, but not needing the overhead of providing for my own tools, supplies, and vehicle for cable work, that we'd be able to make the transition financially.

So it was born. Chris Mick was a stay at home dad.

I thought, "Wow, How great? I could use the break, I'm burnt out from work and I can take some time and get my head straight before I try and workout starting my own business."

And then the first week happened, Sarah was working full time, she came home to no dinner, a messy house, a dirty baby, and a stressed out hubby. Things weren't peaches and crème.

It took work, training, and transition, but I eventually got the rhythm down. I've been doing it ever seen, I've witnessed all the stages of development that Dylan has progressed through since that change and had a great deal of responsibility for having taught her most of what she knows so far. It's been a true blessing.

Dylan grows up, I learn important lessons everyday, and we've seen mommy come home through several promotions, for that past 2 years to a happy and (mostly) clean home.
