When formulating ideas for a business it's important to give youself the best opportunity to consider all aspects of what kind of business you might be interested in. Below are some critical considerations and ideas for you to start brainstorming you business.
What are the requirements of your business? How much capital to you have as start up? How much time you will dedicate to your business or other resources you will need to start your business?
Make a list of all the business ideas that you have. Include in the list the amount of start-up capital, time requirements, required assets (equipment, facilities ect.) and business structure needed for each.
Get some knowledge. Learn everything you can, search for ideas, improve your knowledge base and truly understand what this business is going to require and what you can expect it to give back to you.
Look for the trends. Some industries are dying others are becoming the new “in” businesses. Look in newspapers, radio and television for the newest or hottest businesses that are on the scene and consider these as you search over your ideas.
Understand the legalization of businesses and the structures and forms they can take. Look at each businesses structure for the pros and cons of each as you decide how to structure your business in order to give you the best tax breaks and protection from liability.
Draw it out of you. On a blank piece of paper, draw a line down the center. On the left hand column list all of the things you are good at. List skills you've acquired, knowledge you have, and available resources or contacts for valuable information that you could provide. On the right hand column list your passions. What makes you happiest in life? what are your joys, hobbies or past times? How can these things be combined with your skills and knowledge to make you profitable?
Keep a running list of business ideas as you come across interesting ones you might like to explore. Even years after starting my own business I still keep all my lists and look back on them occasionally a couple of times I’ve revisited some of the ideas that I wasn’t able to pursue earlier in my endeavors, it pays to keep track of the ideas that you have and update them often.
